Remove Hotdrinks1.xyz advertisements

Hotdrinks1.xyz is a questionable website that pushes a social engineering scam to trick users into allowing ads on the desktop. If you get redirected to the site, you will be shown a browser pop-up that says “Hotdrinks1.xyz wants to show notifications”. And if you allow it, Hotdrinks1.xyz will start showing potentially dangerous ads on your desktop.

Hotdrinks1.xyz is misusing a legitimate browser feature that allows sites to show push notifications on the desktop. However, instead of useful notifications, the site would show spam. The site itself doesn’t have any content. It only shows a message saying you need to allow push notifications to start the download. A browser alert will then pop up saying “Hotdrinks1.xyz wants to show notifications”. Since Hotdrinks1.xyz itself is a questionable website, its notifications will be worse. It will likely show ads that ask you to install a program or invite you to participate in some kind of scam. If you have allowed the site to show you notifications, do not interact with them.

Even if many sites misuse this browser feature, it does have its legitimate uses. If there is a site you frequent and want to see more of its content, you can allow it to show notifications. The contents of those notifications depend on what the site usually posts. For example, if you allow a news website to show notifications, you will get news alerts on your desktop. When you no longer want to see the notifications, you can revoke that permission.

To determine what’s causing the redirects, we strongly recommend scanning the computer with anti-virus software like WiperSoft. If it detects adware, it will get rid of it, thus stopping the random redirects. If it’s not adware, the sites you visit are likely what’s triggering the redirects. In that case, install an adblocker program to block the redirects and pop-ups. And if you have given the site permission to show notifications, you can use the directions at the very end of the report to help revoke the permission.

Your computer may be infected with adware if you’re randomly redirected

There are usually two reasons why you could be redirected to sites like Hotdrinks1.xyz. If your computer is infected with adware, you will be redirected all the time. If the redirects happen once or twice and only when visiting certain sites, those sites may at fault. For example, websites that have pornography or pirated content often trigger redirects. To deal with these redirects and intrusive pop-up ads, you should install an adblocker program.

If the redirects appear completely random and happen when browsing safe sites, you may be dealing with an adware infection. We should note that adware is not classified as a particularly dangerous infection because it will not directly harm your computer. Instead, it will focus on exposing you to as much advertisement content as possible. However, as you likely already noticed, adware is rather annoying because of the constant browsing interruptions. Infections like browser hijackers, adware and potentially unwanted programs (PUPs) use software bundling to install. This method allows those infections to come attached to free software as extra offers. Those offers are permitted to install alongside the program they’re attached to automatically. However, they are optional so it is possible to install programs without those offers. The reason many users do not deselect them is that the offers are usually hidden.

To correctly install freeware without any offers, it’s important to pay attention to the process. Most importantly, opt for Advanced or Custom settings when given the option. The installation window will say that you need to use Default settings, but that is not a good idea because the offers will remain hidden and be permitted to install alongside automatically. Advanced settings will make those offers visible, which is why you should always use them when installing programs. If Advanced settings show that something has been added, you need to deselect the boxes of those offers. Even if an offer seems useful, you should not permit its installation. It will only take up space on your computer and cause issues. It’s also much easier to uncheck a couple of boxes than it is to later have to uninstall them.

Hotdrinks1.xyz removal

If the site is spamming your desktop with notifications, you need to remove Hotdrinks1.xyz from the list of sites that can do that. It’s easily done if you know your way around your browser’s settings. In case you do not know what to do, use the directions provided right below. In addition to Hotdrinks1.xyz, you should also remove all other sites you do not recognize or no longer wish to see notifications from.

  • For Mozilla Firefox: Open menu (the three bars top-right corner) -> Options -> Privacy & Security. Scroll down to Permissions, press on Settings next to Notifications, and remove Hotdrinks1.xyz and any other questionable website. You can permanently turn off these notification requests by checking the “Block new requests asking to allow notifications” box in the same Notifications settings.
  • For Google Chrome: Open menu (the three dots top-right corner) -> Settings -> Privacy and security -> Site Settings. Click on Notifications under Permissions, and remove Hotdrinks1.xyz and any other questionable website. You can stop these notification requests permanently by toggling off “Sites can ask to send notifications”.
  • For Microsoft Edge: Open menu (the three dots top-right corner) -> Settings -> Cookies and site permissions -> Notifications. Review which sites have permission and remove Hotdrinks1.xyz and any other questionable website. You can permanently turn off these notification requests by toggling off “Ask before sending”.

Because you could be dealing with a computer infection, it’s recommended to do a scan with anti-virus software like WiperSoft. If it is adware, the redirects will only stop when the adware is no longer present on your device. And it’s easiest to get rid of adware if you use anti-virus software because the program does everything for you.

If no adware is present, then the sites you visit are likely the issue. If you intend to visit high-risk websites in the future, make sure to have an adblocker program installed. It would block the redirects and intrusive pop-ups altogether, or at least close the windows as they pop up.
