What is Kalox APP

Kalox APP is a browser hijacker, advertised as a useful browser extension that supposedly improves the browsing experience. It’s a fairly typical browser hijacker, it tricks users into installing it, changes browser’s settings and tries to redirect to sponsored websites in order to generate traffic and revenue. The hijacker will set its promoted site as your homepage and new tabs, and constantly try to redirect you.

Hijackers aren’t particularly dangerous infections but they are very annoying. However, we should mention that hijackers could also redirect users to potentially dangerous websites, promoting scams and hosting malware. You could be tricked into falling for a scam or downloading malware, so even if hijackers themselves aren’t particularly dangerous, they have no place being installed on your computer. Thus, delete Kalox APP.

While it is possible to download this extension from the Chrome web store and other sources, it’s more likely that it infected your computer via software bundling. It’s very likely that it came attached to free software as an extra offer. When you install a program that has offers attached to it, you install the offers as well, unless you deselect them during installation. However, the offers are purposely hidden from users to ensure their installation.

Browser hijacker installation methods

The extension is available for download on certain sites, such as the Chrome web store. However, it’s not described as a particularly useful extension so it’s doubtful anyone would just download it. What is much more likely is users accidentally installing it via freeware bundles.

A lot of free programs come with additional offers attached to them. Those offers are usually browser hijackers, adware and potentially unwanted programs. Those offers are optional but are set to install by default. Users have to go out of their way to deselect the offers and prevent the unwanted installations. Fortunately, this is not difficult to do.

When you install free software, make sure you do it in Advanced (Custom) settings. Those settings will make those extra offers visible, and you will have the option of deselecting them. Just uncheck the boxes of those offers, and you can continue the installation. Keep in mind that most free programs will come with these extra offers, so you always need to choose Advanced settings. It doesn’t take a lot of time or effort, so there is no reason why you couldn’t deselect the offers.

What does Kalox APP do?

Because hijackers change browser’s settings, they are immediately noticeable. This hijacker will set it’s promoted site as your homepage and new tabs, and prevent you from undoing these changes. You will be stuck with Google Chrome loading the site every time you open the browser until you uninstall Kalox APP.

One of the sites that may be set as your homepage is gooogle.page, and it’s obviously trying to trick you into thinking it’s a site related to Google. The site only has a couple of shortcuts and a search box. It even says “Search Google” in it. However, if you were to search for something, instead of Google, you’d be taken to s3arch.page, where all but one result will be sponsored content. This very clearly is not a reliable search engine and you should not use it. If you do, you may end up on dangerous websites, which could be promoting scams and malware. But since the search engine does not generate any useful results, we doubt anyone will use it.

You may have noted that the gooogle.page site does not have a Privacy Policy or Terms of Use. Without the Privacy Policy, you have no way of knowing what kind of information about you is collected, how its handled, and whether it’s shared. A site that does not have a Privacy Policy is not trustworthy and should be avoided.

Kalox APP removal

The easiest way to delete Kalox APP would be to use anti-spyware software. The program would find and remove all Kalox APP related files, not allowing it to recover. You can remove Kalox APP manually but you would need to find all related files and remove them.
