Remove Onyx Goliath Staking crypto scam

There is currently an Onyx Goliath Staking crypto scam going around, trying to trick users into connecting their crypto wallets to a fraudulent site that activates a crypto drainer that steals all funds in the wallet. The scam is hosted on onyx-migration.com, a nearly identical site to onyx.org, the legitimate site for the Onyx blockchain platform. The Onyx platform is in no way related to the scam, malicious actors are merely using its popularity to steal users’ cryptocurrencies. Unfortunately, connecting a crypto wallet to this fraudulent website could result in all cryptocurrencies being stolen.

According to its official site, Onyx is a Layer 3 blockchain built on Ethereum, Base, and Arbitrum with full EVM smart contract compatibility and native bridging. It’s a completely legitimate platform with onyx.org as its official website. As is the case with many crypto platforms, malicious actors are taking advantage of Onyx’s popularity to steal users’ cryptocurrency funds. The way it works is that malicious actors create nearly identical sites and promote links to them on various social media sites. When users enter these sites, they see ads for promotional events, giveaways, etc. In this particular case, the Onyx Goliath Staking scam site requests that users connect their digital wallets to initiate a migration process.

Users who click “Join Mainnet” and connect their wallets will initiate a crypto drainer that will gradually steal all cryptocurrencies stored in the wallet. To prevent users from noticing right away, the crypto may be transferred to malicious actors’ wallets over time. Unfortunately, once transactions are done, they are irreversible. This means connecting your digital wallet to a scam site may result in permanent crypto loss.

It’s worth mentioning that the site hosting the scam is now blocked by Google Chrome, as there have been reports of phishing. Unless users bypass all the warnings, it’s unlikely that there will be more victims. However, plenty of other sites do the same thing, which is why it’s very important that users are very careful when connecting their wallets. Otherwise, they are risking losing all of their funds.

Social media sites are often used to promote crypto scams like Onyx Goliath Staking

Those users who ended up on the onyx-migration.com scam website were likely redirected to it via some social media post or a comment in a forum. Malicious actors frequently exploit certain social media platforms to promote cryptocurrency scams, with X (formerly Twitter) and YouTube being hotspots for these crypto scams. A common tactic involves impersonating well-known figures, like Elon Musk, and making posts linking to scam sites. This is particularly prevalent on X, where moderation is quite poor, allowing many crypto scams to flourish. For example, comments on Musk’s posts are often filled with fake accounts claiming he is hosting a crypto giveaway or similar events. These impersonators create somewhat convincing profiles that can easily mislead inexperienced or inattentive users, often linking to scams like the “Onyx Goliath Staking” scam. Similarly, YouTube serves as a breeding ground for cryptocurrency scams, where scammers can hijack popular channels and upload videos featuring Elon Musk, Tesla events, and announcements about crypto giveaways.
