Remove Taskbarify unwanted application

Remove Taskbarify unwanted application

Taskbarify is a deceptive program that is promoted as a taskbar customizer. However, its functionality is questionable as it has several hidden features that users are not correctly informed about. What’s more, it can also introduce infections like potentially unwanted programs, adware, and browser hijackers onto the computer via the software bundling method. While Taskbarify is promoted as a useful tool, and it does work, it also turns the device into a proxy server by using users’ bandwidth to provide proxy server services. This is done without users’ explicit permission or knowledge.

Taskbarify’s official website promotes it as a tool to customize your taskbar, its colours, and transparency. etc. The site explicitly states that there are no hidden features, as the developers have a zero tolerance policy for adware, spyware, and other infections. It does say that everything Taskbarify does is stated in the EULA, which is true. However, the developers are fully aware that users will not read it, thus will not see the clause that says the program can use the devices’ resources and work as a proxy.

According to the cleverly hidden clause, Taskbarify can use parts of users’ Internet resources for proxy leveraging functionality, which means that it can route Internet traffic through your device. Taskbarify also reads system certificate settings, security settings of web browsers, and Windows trust settings. Users are not informed about the potential risks that come with this.

Another thing that should be mentioned is that closing the app does not actually close it. If you try to quit it, it will seemingly close, but if you open Task Manager, you will still see it running in the background. This is very problematic behaviour because it continues to use your traffic and tries to conceal this from you.

If you notice it is installed on your computer, we strongly recommend you remove Taskbarify. Even if you use it to customize your taskbar, it’s not worth the security risk.

How did Taskbarify install

Taskbarify has an official website, so users may end up on it via ads or if they’re looking for a tool to customize their taskbar. It may also be promoted as a useful tool on various third-party program download sites. Because potentially unwanted programs are often advertised as useful, it’s important to always research a program before installing it. Had you researched Taskbarify using a search engine before you downloaded it, you would have gotten plenty of results warning that it’s an infection.

It’s also been noted that Taskbarify often comes with bundled items. These items are bundled with the program as additional offers, allowing them to be installed alongside the program without requiring explicit permission from users. The offers are technically optional, but they have to be manually deselected to prevent their installation. This is made difficult by the fact that they are hidden in settings users rarely use.

If you want to prevent future unwanted installations, always use Advanced settings when installing programs. The installation window will recommend Default, but those settings will authorize all offers to install automatically. Advanced settings, on the other hand, will make all offers visible, allowing you to deselect the ones you do not want. It’s always recommended to deselect all added offers because legitimate programs do not use this installation method. And those that do are usually detected as potential threats by anti-virus programs.

How to remove Taskbarify

Many users have expressed difficulty trying to remove Taskbarify manually. Users who do not know much about computers may struggle with regular Taskbarify removal because its directory is hidden. And when users try to delete Taskbarify via the built-in uninstaller, an error pops up saying Windows cannot find the folder. Thus, to remove Taskbarify, we recommend using anti-malware software like WiperSoft. Using anti-malware is also recommended because the program would take care of any potential additional infections that could have entered together with Taskbarify.
