Remove Trojan:Script/Wacatac.B!ml

Trojan:Script/Wacatac.B!ml is a detection name used by Microsoft Defender to detect data-stealing trojans. However, this detection does not necessarily mean an infection is present, as false positives have been detected many times in the past. The “ml” in the “Trojan:Script/Wacatac.B!ml” detection name refers to “machine learning”. The “ml” in a detection name usually means Microsoft Defender found some file behaving in a way that resembles malware. Unfortunately, false positives happen all the time, but that does not mean you should disregard the detection and automatically think of it as false.

Watac trojans can be quite serious infections. They may have data-stealing capabilities, meaning they can extract all kinds of data from your computer and browsers. That may include all saved login credentials, and even payment card information if you have typed it in somewhere. Some trojans also have keylogging features that allow them to essentially record every keystroke, meaning anything you enter would be visible to malicious actors.

The thing about data-stealing trojans is that they tend to stay in the background to avoid detection. This way, they can steal more data as users do not notice their presence if anti-malware software is not installed on the device. There are some signs that signal a potential trojan presence on the computer, but users need to know them to be aware of them. Some of the signs include unknown processes using a lot of computer resources, programs crashing without reason, Internet issues, and a sluggish computer.

Sophisticated, stealthy trojans are one of the reasons why having an anti-malware program enabled at all times is so important. However, anti-malware programs are not immune to making false detections. And there have been several cases where Microsoft Defender falsely identified Trojan:Script/Wacatac.B!ml.

Remove Trojan:Script/Wacatac.B!ml

Even if you suspect that Microsoft Defender is falsely detecting something as Trojan:Script/Wacatac.B!ml, do not disregard this detection. Install another anti-malware program and do a full scan. If the anti-malware program detects nothing, then Trojan:Script/Wacatac.B!ml is a false positive. If something is detected, the anti-malware program should be able to remove it even if Microsoft Defender cannot.
