Stop Sclotheswe.xyz redirects

Sclotheswe.xyz is a deceptive website that will try to trick you into allowing ads on the desktop. It misuses a legitimate browser feature to do this, which is why you will see a notification saying “Sclotheswe.xyz wants to show notifications” when you visit the site. Infections like adware often redirect to sites like Sclotheswe.xyz so it’s possible your computer is infected if you constantly end up on this site. Allowing it to show notifications means you would start seeing intrusive advertisements on the desktop.

Sclotheswe.xyz is practically identical to Eaconeno.xyz, Oveosgrupont.xyz, Nyseafaring.xyz, and Dwhenmyfe.xyz in every way. They are made to appear as entertainment sites focused on music, celebrities, sports, and movies, but upon further inspection don’t actually contain any content. Sclotheswe.xyz only displays an image and a note saying you should allow notifications. As soon as you enter the site, your browser will display an alert saying “Sclotheswe.xyz wants to show notifications”. If you click “Allow” you will start seeing ads on your desktop. Since the site itself is quite questionable, the ads may be outright malicious. You could be exposed to various malware and scams. Furthermore, they appear at a similar place to legitimate system notifications, increasing the chances of you confusing the two. So if you have allowed the site to show notifications, we suggest you revoke that permission as soon as possible. Use the instructions provided at the very end to help you.

Despite sites like Sclotheswe.xyz misusing this feature, as long as a site is legitimate, you can allow it to show you notifications. What kind of content the notifications will display depends on what the site usually posts. For example, a news website with permission to show notifications would show important news alerts. When you no longer wish to see the notifications, you can stop them in your browser’s settings.

To determine why you’re being redirected, we strongly recommend scanning the computer with an anti-virus program like WiperSoft. If adware is installed, it would be deleted, thus stopping the redirects. If adware is not present, you need to be more careful about what sites you visit. Certain high-risk sites can trigger redirects when you interact with their content. Make sure you have an active adblocker when you visit those sites.

Redirects to random sites can often be triggered by adware

The reason for redirects to sites like Sclotheswe.xyz is usually the questionable ads on high-risk websites. When you visit sites that have adult or pirated content, for example, it’s highly likely that clicking on anything will trigger a redirect. This is why visiting certain sites without an adblocker is not a good idea. An adblocker would prevent the redirects altogether, or at least close them as soon as they appear. It would also block intrusive pop-up ads.

However, if you are redirected when visiting high-risk websites, your computer may have an adware infection. It’s not particularly serious but it will try to expose you to as much sponsored content as possible. In most cases, users don’t even notice how adware installs because it uses software bundling to install. Infections like adware, browser hijackers, and potentially unwanted programs (PUPs) come attached to free software as extra offers. These extra offers are set to install alongside automatically, despite being optional. However, because the offers are hidden, many users are unable to prevent their installation.

If you want to install free software without any offers, you need to pay attention to the process. This is especially important when you install programs downloaded from those free program websites. During installation, opt for Advanced (Custom) settings instead of Default. The installation window will claim that you should use Default, but Default settings will hide all offers and allow their installations. However, if you opt for Advanced, all added offers will be made visible. You will also have the option to deselect whatever offer you do not want. Generally, it’s not a good idea to install any of the added offers because they will mostly be minor infections. Software bundling is a very questionable installation method and programs that use it are often unreliable. If you allow their installations, you will quickly fill your computer with junk that can be difficult to get rid of later on. And it’s much easier to uncheck a couple of boxes than it is to later have to uninstall persistent infections like adware.

In addition to Sclotheswe.xyz, you should also remove all other questionable sites from the list of sites that have permission.

  • For Microsoft Edge: Open menu (the three dots top-right corner) -> Settings -> Cookies and site permissions -> Notifications. We strongly recommend scanning the computer with anti-virus software like WiperSoft to check for adware. The redirects will not stop until you delete Sclotheswe.xyz adware from the computer, and it’s easiest to do using anti-virus software because the program would do everything for you. If no adware is detected, install an adblocker program to block redirects and pop-ups for when you visit high-risk websites.
