Welovetop.xyz ads removal

Welovetop.xyz is one of many websites created for the purpose of pushing a social engineering scam onto users. The sites aim to trick you into allowing ads on the desktop, which is why you will get a pop-up saying “Welovetop.xyz wants to show notifications” when you get redirected to the site. Allowing Welovetop.xyz to show notifications means ads will spam your desktop. They will be more or less harmless, provided you do not interact with them.

What is Welovetop.xyz?

As you likely already noticed, Welovetop.xyz is a spam website. It’s made to seem like a legitimate sports news website but it’s merely a ruse to trick users into pressing “Allow” in the “Welovetop.xyz wants to show notifications” alert. If you agree to these notifications, they will appear on your desktop, on the right side. You may notice that they appear at a similar place to legitimate system notifications, and that is done on purpose. The ads may also be made to look legitimate. For example, an ad may claim you need to install an urgent update. If you fall for this, you could end up downloading a potentially unwanted program at best. Or malware at worst. The ads will also be incredibly annoying to deal with. Fortunately, you can remove Welovetop.xyz from the list of sites that have permission to show notifications pretty easily. If you don’t know how to do that, refer to the instructions provided at the very end.

Even if plenty of questionable websites misuse this feature, there are plenty of legitimate uses for it. For example, if you allow a news website to show notifications, it would show important news alerts, clicking on which would take you directly to the news article. The notifications shown by a website depend on the contents it usually posts. Unlike the ones shown by Welovetop.xyz, notifications shown by legitimate sites are safe to interact with. When you no longer want to see the notifications, you can revoke the permission.

It’s recommended to scan your computer with anti-virus software such as WiperSoft whenever you notice random redirects to sites like Welovetop.xyz. While not always the case, redirects may indicate adware being installed on your device. If not adware, then sites you visit may be triggering the redirects.

Adware installation methods

Adware is a pretty minor infection, with its primary symptom being pop-ups and redirects. If you get redirected when browsing safe sites, then it’s likely adware. It can install completely unnoticed via the software bundling method. Adware is often found attached to various free programs, and when users installed them, the adware installs alongside. Most free programs will come with some kind of attached offer, usually either adware or browser hijacker. If you want to prevent these unwanted offers from installing, you need to pay attention to how you install free programs. When given the option, use Advanced (Custom) settings instead of Default. Advanced will make all offers visible and give you the option to deselect everything. It’s strongly recommended to always deselect whatever’s added to free programs.

If adware is not detected, the issue may be the sites you visit. Plenty of sites, usually ones that have pornography or pirated content, trigger redirects and show questionable ads, so it’s a good idea to have adblocker installed.
