Ethistory1.xyz redirect removal

Ethistory1.xyz redirect removal

Ethistory1.xyz is a fake streaming website that tries to trick visitors into agreeing to be spammed with ads on the desktop. When you get redirected to it, you will see a browser alert saying “Ethistory1.xyz wants to show notifications”, on which clicking “Allow” would permit the site to show you ads on the desktop.

The “show notifications” feature is completely legitimate, and it’s okay to allow safe sites to show notifications. Some users may find the feature quite useful, if there’s a site they frequent often and wish to see more of its contents. For example, if a news website users frequently visit gets permission to show these notifications, it will show important news alerts directly on the desktop. This permission is easily revokable, and directions will be provided at the end of the report.

However, sites like Ethistory1.xyz are essentially misusing the feature to spam users with ads. The contents displayed on the site may differ every time the site is visited but it will usually show a video player playing the intro of a movie. After about 15 seconds, the video will stop, and the site will display a message saying you need to allow notifications to play the video. If users were redirected to this scam while trying to stream a movie, this may work to trick users. Otherwise, there’s no reason why anyone would interact with the site. A browser alert asking to allow notifications will be displayed. If you allow Ethistory1.xyz to show the notifications, ads will start popping up on your desktop. We don’t recommend interacting with them because you could be tricked into downloading something malicious. Use the directions in the last section of the report to delete Ethistory1.xyz from the list of sites that have permission.

Random redirects may be caused by adware

If you get redirected randomly to sites like Ethistory1.xyz, either your computer is infected with adware or you visit high-risk websites. There are certain websites that are considered to be high-risk due to the ads they host, and interacting with anything on those sites can trigger the redirects. Installing an adblocker program would help prevent redirects when browsing those kinds of websites.

If you’re redirected when browsing safe sites and it has happened multiple times, your computer may be infected with adware. Adware is a relatively minor infection, one that installs via software bundling in most cases. Such infections can come attached to free software as extra offers and install alongside without requiring any additional permission. The offers are optional but because they are hidden and set to install alongside automatically, many users simply do not notice them, thus allowing them to install. If you want to avoid installing these unwanted offers, pay attention to how you install free programs. Most importantly, opt for Advanced (Custom) settings when given the option during installation. Those settings, unlike Default, will give you the option to review all added offers and deselect the ones you do not want. While some offers may seem useful at first, allowing their installation is not a good idea. You should always deselect all offers, as this method of installation is rather sneaky.

Revoking a site’s permission to show notifications on your desktop is not difficult, and you can use the below provided directions to help you if you do not know how to do it. In addition to removing Ethistory1.xyz from the list, you should also do the same to all other sites you do not recognize.

  • For Mozilla Firefox: Open menu (the three bars top-right corner) -> Options -> Privacy & Security. Scroll down to Permissions, press on Settings next to Notifications, and remove Ethistory1.xyz and any other questionable website. You can permanently turn off these notification requests by checking the “Block new requests asking to allow notifications” box in the same Notifications settings.
  • For Google Chrome: Open menu (the three dots top-right corner) -> Settings -> Privacy and security -> Site Settings. Click on Notifications under Permissions, and remove Ethistory1.xyz and any other questionable website. You can stop these notification requests permanently by toggling off “Sites can ask to send notifications”.
  • For Microsoft Edge: Open menu (the three dots top-right corner) -> Settings -> Cookies and site permissions -> Notifications. Review which sites have permission and remove Ethistory1.xyz and any other questionable website. You can permanently turn off these notification requests by toggling off “Ask before sending”.

It would also be a good idea to scan your computer with anti-virus software like WiperSoft just in case an adware infection is what’s causing the redirects. The anti-virus would get rid of the adware, thus stopping the redirects. If adware isn’t the issue, install an adblocker program to stop the redirects.
