How to stop Rplnd25.com redirects

Rplnd25.com is a generic website that promotes various scams. In addition to currently promoting a fake gift card giveaway, the site is also misusing a legitimate browser notification that allows sites to ask for permission to show notifications on the desktop. As soon as you enter the site, you will see a browser alert saying “Rplnd25.com wants to show notifications”. If you click “Allow”, you will start seeing intrusive advertisements directly on your desktop. Interacting with those notifications is not a good idea because you would be exposed to all kinds of potentially malicious content.

Users can give sites permission to show notifications that would appear on the desktop. However, only legitimate sites should have permission. Provided a site is safe, you can give it permission to show notifications. Their contents depend on what the site usually posts. For example, a news website would show important news alerts directly on the desktop. If you give a travel website permission, you would likely get notifications about new travel destinations and/or discounts. You can easily revoke this permission if you no longer wish to see the notifications. We will provide instructions to help you if you don’t know what to do.

Despite its legitimacy, the feature is very often misused by scam websites like Rplnd25.com. The site is essentially used to display scams and push users to agree to useless notifications. At the moment, the site is displaying a gift card scam. Supposedly, you will receive a $50 gift card if you click “Allow” on the browser alert that says “Rplnd25.com wants to show notifications”. However, instead of a gift card, you would get spam ads directly on your desktop. Keep in mind that these ads may purposely be made to appear like they’re legitimate system notifications in order to trick users into engaging with them. But those ads could expose you to scams and even dangerous content, including malware. The sooner you revoke this permission, the better.

Depending on when and how often the redirects happen, you may need to scan your computer with anti-spyware software like WiperSoft. If the redirects happen only when you’re visiting specific websites, the sites are likely at fault. A reliable adblocker program would prevent these unwanted redirects, as well as regular intrusive ads. If you’re redirected regularly without an obvious reason, your computer may be infected with adware, in which case you’d need to use anti-spyware software.

Why are you being randomly redirected?

In most cases, users are redirected to sites like Rplnd25.com either because their computers are infected with adware or because they browse high-risk websites. If it’s the latter, simply installing an adblocker would make a significant difference. Having an adblocker program installed is especially important if you visit high-risk websites. For example, sites with pornographic or pirated content are usually considered to be high-risk because of the ads they host. So if you notice that you’re redirected only when visiting certain sites, either install an adblocker program or do not visit those sites at all.

If the redirects happen more regularly, your computer may be infected with adware. It’s not a serious infection and it usually spams ads and/or triggers redirects. These infections install sneakily using the software bundling method, so many users are not even aware of their presence. They use the software bundling method for installation because it essentially allows them to install automatically without explicit permission. The way this works is unwanted programs like adware can come attached to freeware as extra offers and install alongside automatically without users even knowing. For obvious reasons, this method is quite controversial. Anti-virus tools often detect programs that use the method as potential threats.

The offers that come attached to free software are optional so you can prevent their installation as long as you pay attention. To be able to deselect the offers, you first need to make them visible. If you use Default settings when installing free programs as the installation window recommends, all offers will be hidden and permitted to install alongside automatically. To make them visible, you need to choose Advanced (Custom) settings when given the option. You will not only be able to review the offers but also deselect all of them. All you need to do is uncheck the boxes. We generally recommend deselecting all offers because otherwise, you’ll fill your computer with junk programs that are difficult to get rid of once installed. It’s much easier to just uncheck a couple of boxes during installation.

Rplnd25.com removal

If you get redirected to questionable websites regularly without any apparent reason, it may be a good idea to scan your computer with anti-spyware software like WiperSoft in case an adware infection is triggering the redirects. If it turns out to be adware, only removing it would stop the redirects, and it’s easiest to do that using anti-spyware software. In addition, you should install an adblocker program to block intrusive ads and disruptive redirects.

If the site tricked you into allowing it to show notifications, you can and should remove it. You can easily do that via your browser’s settings.
