Remove Whenwem.online ads

Remove Whenwem.online ads

Whenwem.online is a generic website that pushes a social engineering scam. It will try to trick you into allowing it to show notifications by misusing a legitimate browser feature, and then spam you with advertisements on the desktop. Besides being annoying, ads shown by Whenwem.online can also be dangerous and expose you to malicious content and scams. If you have allowed Whenwem.online to show notifications, you need to revoke that permission as soon as possible.

Like many similar sites, Whenwem.online is made to appear like it’s an entertainment site that provides news on movies. However, it does not display any kind of content besides a message that says you need to allow notifications to continue on to the site. A browser pop-up alert will also appear and say that “Whenwem.online wants to show notifications”. The feature itself is legitimate but Whenwem.online’s use of it is not. Instead of useful notifications, the site would spam you with intrusive advertisements that would appear on your desktop. Besides being pretty persistent and annoying, these ads can also be dangerous. They may advertise questionable programs, or even trick you into download malware. There’s really no reason to allow Whenwem.online to show notifications but if you have given it permission, directions to revoke that permission are provided at the end of the report.

Despite the fact that it’s often misused, the “show notifications” feature is legitimate and can even come in useful. Provided a website is safe and legitimate, you can allow it to show notifications on your desktop. What those notifications show depends on what kind of content the site usually posts. If, for example, you allow a travel website to show notifications, you would likely be shown alerts about new travel destinations and/or discounts. Giving permission to a news website would allow it to show you alerts with important news. This permission is easily revokable so you can stop the notifications at any time.

It’s possible that your computer is infected with adware, which would explain why you’re redirected to Whenwem.online and other random sites all the time. It’s not a serious infection but you need to get rid of it sooner rather than later. We recommend scanning the computer with anti-virus software such as WiperSoft to remove Whenwem.online adware. If it’s not adware, you’re likely redirected by the high-risk websites you visit. Install an adblocker program to prevent these random redirects.

Redirects to random websites can indicate adware’s presence

When users get randomly redirected to sites like Whenwem.online, it’s usually because they browse high-risk websites or their computers are infected with adware. There are websites that are considered to be high-risk due to the advertisement content they host. In particular, it’s often sites that have pornography or pirated content that are dangerous to visit without anti-virus and an adblocker program installed.

If the computer is infected with adware or something similar, the redirects will happen more often, even when browsing safe sites. This can get annoying rather quickly because it interrupts regular browsing. Because adware can install essentially without permission, many users aren’t even aware that their computers are infected. These kinds of infections use a method called software bundling which essentially allows them to come attached to free software as extra offers. The offers, while optional, are added in a way that allows them to install alongside the program automatically without requiring explicit permission from users. So unless users pay close attention when installing free programs, they are unlikely to notice that something is attached to it.

To correctly install free software, you need to opt for Advanced (Custom) settings when given the option during installation. If you opt for Default settings, all offers will be hidden and permitted to install alongside automatically. Advanced settings, on the other hand, will display everything that has been added and you will have the option to deselect all of them. All you need to do is uncheck the boxes of those offers to prevent their installation. Keep in mind that most free programs will come with these added offers. If you don’t pay attention when installing freeware, your computer will quickly be filled with junk programs that disrupt your browsing and are tricky to get rid of.

Since adware is often behind random redirects, we strongly recommend scanning the computer with anti-virus software such as WiperSoft. Manual Whenwem.online adware removal could be tricky because it’s pretty persistent, thus it’s much easier to use anti-virus software. If the security program doesn’t detect any adware or similar infections, you need to install an adblocker program as the redirects are likely triggered by the high-risk websites you visit.
