Stop Salesrepresw.xyz redirects

Salesrepresw.xyz is a highly questionable website that pushes a social engineering scam. The site misuses a legitimate browser feature that allows sites with users’ permission to show notifications on the desktop. In some situations, this can be a useful feature. However, instead of useful notifications, sites like Salesrepresw.xyz show advertisements. And not completely safe ones either. If you allow Salesrepresw.xyz to show notifications, you could be exposed to all kinds of potentially dangerous content.

Salesrepresw.xyz is practically identical to Hrougthatsidh.club, Weightlosshouse1.xyz, Catedlittlem.xyz, and Izationser.xyz. They’re all practically the same website that misuses a legitimate browser feature. While you shouldn’t allow these kinds of sites to show notifications, you can give this permission to legitimate sites. If there is a site you frequent and wish to see more of its content, you can give it permission. The contents of those notifications depend on what the site usually posts. For example, a news website will show important news alerts. When you no longer wish to see the notifications, you can revoke the site’s permission very easily. If you don’t know how to do it, you can use the instructions provided at the end of the report.

While this browser feature is legitimate, it’s often misused by sites like Salesrepresw.xyz. The site itself claims to be a video games news website but it doesn’t actually have any content. The site only has an image and instructions on how to enable push notifications. When you get redirected to the site, you will immediately get a browser alert saying “Salesrepresw.xyz wants to show notifications”. If you click “Allow”, you will start seeing advertisements on your desktop. We don’t recommend interacting with any of the ads because you could be exposed to highly questionable content. In particular, you could be tricked into downloading potentially malicious programs. Or the ads could advertise scams. If you have given permission, we suggest you revoke it as soon as possible. We doubt you enjoy being spammed with advertisements on your desktop.

If you’re randomly redirected to sites like Salesrepresw.xyz, your computer may be infected with adware. Thus, we recommend scanning it with anti-virus software like WiperSoft. If adware is detected, allow the program to remove it. That should stop the redirects. If no adware is detected, install an adblocker program.

Random redirects can be a sign of adware

In most cases, when users are redirected, the redirects are triggered by the websites that users visit. Certain sites are considered to be high-risk because of the ads they host. Sites that would be considered high-risk are usually those that have pornography or pirated content. So if you were redirected when browsing such a site, we recommend installing an adblocker program. It would block not only the redirects but also intrusive advertisements.

However, if you’re redirected on a regular basis, your computer may have an adware program installed. Adware is a pretty minor infection that mostly focuses on exposing users to advertisement content. Adware infections don’t directly harm computers. But they can trigger redirects.

Infections like adware, browser hijackers, and potentially unwanted programs (PUPs) are usually distributed via free software bundling. It’s a questionable method of installation that essentially allows programs to install without explicit permission. The way the method works is the mentioned infections can come attached to free software as extra offers that can install alongside without needing permission. The offers, while preselected to install, are technically optional. But you need to know how to deselect them.

If you want to prevent unwanted offers from installing, you need to pay attention when installing free programs. Most importantly, you need to opt for Advanced (Custom) settings when given the option. You may notice that the installation window will recommend using Default settings but if you follow this advice, your computer will be filled with junk like Salesrepresw.xyz adware. Default settings will hide the offers and allow their installation. However, if you opt for Advanced settings, the added offers will be made visible. You will also be able to deselect them, which would prevent the installations. We always recommend deselecting all offers because no legitimate programs are distributed this way.

Software bundling as a method of installation is highly questionable, and many programs that use it are detected as potential threats by anti-virus vendors. And it’s much easier to prevent unwanted installations in the beginning than it is to uninstall them later on. Because infections like adware can be very persistent.

When you suddenly start getting redirected to random websites, your first course of action should be to scan your computer with anti-virus software. A program like WiperSoft would detect and delete Salesrepresw.xyz adware, thus stopping the redirects. However, if the redirects only happen when you visit certain websites, install an adblocker program. Adblockers are always useful because they block redirects and intrusive advertisements.
